For the casserole
  • 1 loaf loaf of cubed bread Use stale bread for better texture.
  • 1 cup blueberries Feel free to mix different types of berries.
  • 1 cup strawberries, sliced Feel free to mix different types of berries.
  • 6 large eggs large eggs Egg substitute can be used for an egg-free version.
  • 2 cups milk For a richer flavor, substitute some of the milk with cream.
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Powdered sugar for dusting For serving.
  • Maple syrup for drizzling For serving.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Grease a baking dish and layer the cubed bread, blueberries, and strawberries in it.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon.
  3. Pour the egg mixture over the bread and berries, ensuring everything is coated.
  4. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown.
  3. Dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with maple syrup before serving.

Notes

To store leftovers, allow the casserole to cool completely. Then, cover it with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and refrigerate for up to three days. Reheat individual portions in the microwave or warm it in the oven. You can add nuts like pecans or walnuts for crunch or chocolate chips for a sweeter dish.
