Preparation
- Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter.
- Cut the bread into cubes and layer half of it in the dish.
- Sprinkle half of the blueberries over the bread.
- In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, maple syrup, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
- Pour half of the mixture over the bread and blueberries.
- Layer the remaining bread cubes and blueberries on top.
- Pour the remaining egg mixture over the second layer.
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
Baking
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Remove the plastic wrap and bake for 45-50 minutes or until the casserole is set and golden brown.
Serving
- Serve the Blueberry French Toast Casserole warm, drizzled with maple syrup.
- Add a dusting of powdered sugar or a dollop of whipped cream if desired.
- Fresh fruit on the side complements the dish beautifully.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use stale bread. You can mix in nuts for added crunch and add more maple syrup for sweetness.
