  • 2 cups milk Can use whole milk or a non-dairy alternative.
  • 1 cup heavy cream Can be substituted with whole milk for a lighter version.
  • 1 cup sugar Reduce for less sweetness if desired.
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup raisins Can be swapped with other fruits, like chopped apples or pears.
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips or cinnamon chips
Butter Rum Sauce

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the bread cubes, raisins, and chocolate or cinnamon chips.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and cinnamon. Pour this mixture over the bread cubes, making sure to coat them well.
  4. Allow the mixture to sit for about 10 minutes to soak.
  5. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
Baking
  1. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the custard is set.
Serving
  1. Serve warm with butter rum sauce drizzled on top.

Notes

You can also add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra special treat. Cool completely before storing leftovers in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days.
