Preparation
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt in a medium bowl; set aside.
- In a large bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy using an electric mixer.
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract until well combined. If desired, mix in green food coloring.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Stir in chocolate chips.
Baking
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- If using, gently press two candy eyes onto each cookie dough ball.
- Bake for 9-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are set. Let cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For an extra spooky effect, decorate with green frosting and edible glitter, or add candy eyes before baking.
