Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 (10-12 oz each) chocolate cake rolls
  • 2 packages (3.9 oz each) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 4 cups milk
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup chocolate shavings or mini chocolate chips for garnish

Equipment

  • Trifle dish
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk or electric mixer
  • Sharp knife

Method

Assembly
  1. Whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix with cold milk according to package directions, then let it set for 5 minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form to create whipped cream.
  3. Slice the chocolate cake rolls into 1/2-inch thick rounds using a sharp knife.
  4. Arrange half of the sliced cake rolls in a single layer on the bottom of a large trifle dish.
  5. Spread half of the prepared chocolate pudding evenly over the cake rolls.
  6. Carefully spread half of the whipped cream over the pudding layer.
  7. Repeat the layers with the remaining cake rolls, pudding, and whipped cream.
  8. Cover the trifle and refrigerate for at least 3 hours; garnish with chocolate shavings or mini chocolate chips before serving.

Notes

For best results, allow the trifle to chill for at least 3 hours to let the flavors meld and the cake rolls soften slightly. Garnish with additional chocolate shavings or fresh berries before serving.
