Method

Dough Preparation
  1. Combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast; let the mixture sit until it becomes foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, cocoa, and salt, then add the yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, and vanilla to form a soft dough.
  3. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic, then place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 to 1.5 hours.
Assemble Rolls
  1. Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a 12x18 inch rectangle.
  2. Spread softened butter evenly over the dough, then sprinkle with brown sugar, cinnamon, and chocolate chips.
  3. Roll the dough tightly from the long edge, then slice it into 12 equal pieces.
Baking
  1. Arrange the rolls in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, cover, and let them rise again for 30-45 minutes.
  2. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until they are lightly golden and cooked through.
Glaze
  1. While the rolls cool slightly, whisk together softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until the mixture is smooth.
  2. Spread the glaze generously over the warm cinnamon rolls before serving.

Notes

For best results, ensure your butter is at room temperature. Do not overmix the dough. These rolls are best served warm.
