  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 jar maraschino cherries, drained Can use fresh cherries (pitted and drained).
Frosting

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Stir in the vanilla.
  4. In another bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually blend into the creamed mixture.
  5. Take a small amount of dough and press it around a maraschino cherry to form a ball.
  6. Place the dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Let cool slightly.
  8. Top with frosting before serving.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or freeze them for longer storage. Let the frosting set before stacking to prevent sticking.
