  • 1 shallot small, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme chopped
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper adjust to taste
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper or to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional, for extra heat

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Ensure the unsalted butter is at room temperature to make mixing all ingredients easier.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the softened butter with minced garlic, shallot, and all fresh herbs and spices.
  3. Mix thoroughly using a fork or rubber spatula until all ingredients are well combined and evenly distributed.
  4. Spoon the cowboy butter onto parchment paper, form it into a log, and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
  5. Once firm, slice and serve the cowboy butter with your preferred grilled meats, vegetables, or bread.

Notes

Cowboy butter can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to a week, or frozen for longer storage. Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper and red pepper flakes to suit your spice preference.
