Ingredients
  

Crust
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour For the base of the bars.

Filling
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries Can use frozen directly without thawing.
  • 1/2 cup orange juice Adds flavor to the filling.
  • 1/2 cup sugar For the filling sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest Enhances orange flavor.
Crumble Topping
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats For texture in the topping.
  • remaining dough from crust mixture Used to create the crumble topping.
Glaze
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar For the glaze.
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice For the glaze.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8x8 inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the flour, softened butter, sugar, and salt until a dough forms. Press this dough into the bottom of the greased pan.
  3. In another bowl, combine the cranberries, orange juice, sugar, and orange zest. Pour this mixture over the crust in the pan.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the rolled oats with the remaining dough mixture to create a crumble topping. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the cranberry filling.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the topping is golden brown.
  6. For the glaze, mix the powdered sugar with one tablespoon of orange juice. Drizzle this over the cooled bars before slicing.

Notes

Best served at room temperature; cut into squares or bars. Pairs wonderfully with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Store in an airtight container; lasts a few days at room temperature or up to a week in the refrigerator.
