Ingredients
  

Cookie Base
  • 1 cup butter, softened Make sure it is softened but not melted for the best texture.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Dry Ingredients
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Flavor Add-ins
  • 1 cup fresh or dried cranberries, chopped Frozen cranberries can also be used.
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest For a stronger flavor, add more zest.
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans Optional.
  • 1/4 cup orange juice

Method
 

Preparing the Dough
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the wet mixture.
  5. Fold in the cranberries, orange zest, and nuts if using.
Baking
  1. Drop by tablespoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets.
  2. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are lightly browned.
  3. Allow cooling on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

Serve cookies warm or at room temperature. They pair well with milk, tea, or coffee. Store them in an airtight container at room temperature for about a week.
