Ingredients

Cookie Dough
  • 2.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp Baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter softened
  • 1.5 cups Granulated sugar
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp Orange zest from about 2 large oranges
  • 0.25 cup Orange juice freshly squeezed
Orange Glaze
  • 2 cups Powdered sugar
  • 4-5 tbsp Orange juice freshly squeezed
  • 1 tsp Orange zest optional

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Electric mixer
  • Baking sheets
  • Parchment paper
  • Wire rack
  • Small bowl
  • Spatula/Whisk

Method

Cookies
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt, then set this dry mixture aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together using an electric mixer until the mixture is light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract, orange zest, and orange juice until just combined.
  5. Gradually add the reserved dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until a soft dough forms.
  6. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, ensuring they are spaced about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cookie edges are lightly golden and the centers are set.
  8. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Orange Glaze
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, orange juice, and optional orange zest until the glaze is smooth and pourable.
  2. Once the cookies are completely cooled, drizzle or spread the prepared glaze evenly over each one.
  3. Allow the glaze to set completely before serving the cookies or storing them.

Notes

Ensure cookies are completely cool before glazing to prevent the glaze from melting. For an intensified orange flavor, use fresh orange zest and juice.
