Preparation
- Bake the Cake: Follow the instructions on the cake mix box to bake the cake. Let it cool completely.
- Crumble the Cake: Once the cake is cool, crumble it into a large bowl. Use your hands or a fork to break it into small pieces.
- Mix with Frosting: Add the frosting to the crumbled cake. Mix well until you reach a dough-like consistency.
- Shape into Balls: Take small amounts of the mixture and roll them into balls. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. You can make them any size you like.
- Insert Lollipop Sticks: Melt a small amount of candy melts and dip one end of a lollipop stick into the melted candy. Then, push the stick into the cake ball. Repeat for all the balls.
- Chill: Put the cake pops in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to set.
- Melt Candy Coating: While the cake pops chill, melt your candy melts according to the package instructions.
- Coat the Cake Pops: Dip each chilled cake pop into the melted candy until fully coated. Let the excess drip off.
- Decorate: While the coating is still wet, sprinkle with festive decorations if desired.
- Set: Place the coated cake pops upright in a foam block or stand to let them set completely.
Notes
Store any leftover cake pops in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week. For longer storage, refrigerate for up to two weeks. Use any flavor of cake mix and frosting to match your theme.
