Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 Tbsp baking powder (aluminum-free)
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar
  • 0.75 tsp fine sea salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter (cold) Use cold for best texture.
  • 1 cup half and half (minus 2 Tbsp) Cold half and half is preferred.
  • 0.5 Tbsp melted butter (to brush the baked biscuits)

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. Cut the cold butter into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or your fingers until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Pour in the half and half, leaving out 2 tablespoons. Stir until the dough forms, but do not overmix.
  4. Lightly flour a clean surface and turn the dough out onto it.
  5. Gently fold the dough a few times to create layers.
Baking
  1. Pat the dough down to about 1-inch thick, then use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits.
  2. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  3. Place biscuits on a baking sheet. Brush the tops with melted butter.
  4. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

If you have leftover biscuits, let them cool completely, then store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. For longer storage, you can freeze them for up to three months.
