Ingredients

Lasagna
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes can
  • 6 oz tomato paste can
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 12 lasagna noodles oven-ready or pre-boiled
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese container
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese grated
  • 2 cups Mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 0.25 cup fresh parsley chopped (for garnish)

Equipment

  • Large skillet/pot
  • 9x13 inch baking dish
  • Mixing bowls
  • Spatula/spoon

Method

Instructions
  1. Brown the ground beef in a large skillet; drain excess fat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until softened.
  2. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and grated Parmesan cheese. Mix well until smooth.
  4. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in a 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange a layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce, then spread half of the ricotta mixture, followed by a layer of mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers, ending with meat sauce and mozzarella cheese.
  5. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 15 minutes, or until bubbly and the cheese is golden brown.
  6. Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

For best results, let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes after baking before slicing. This helps the layers set and prevents it from falling apart.
