Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- Melt the chocolate chips and butter together in a heatproof bowl over simmering water or in the microwave until smooth.
- Stir in the sugar, salt, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Sift in the cocoa powder and fold gently until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan.
Baking
- Bake for 25 minutes or until the cake has set around the edges but is still soft in the center.
- Allow to cool before removing from the pan.
- Serve as is or dust with powdered sugar.
Notes
Store covered at room temperature for up to 2 days. Refrigerate for a week or freeze individual slices for longer storage. For a variation, add 1 tsp instant coffee granules to enhance the chocolate flavor or experiment with nuts for added texture.
