Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
For Frying
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted butter.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir until combined but do not overmix.
Frying
  1. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Roll the dough into a 1/2-inch thick layer. Use a doughnut cutter or two round cookie cutters to cut out doughnut shapes.
  3. Carefully place the doughnuts in the hot oil. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
  4. Remove the doughnuts from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  5. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
