Ingredients

Brownie Batter
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted butter
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup Light brown sugar
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp Ground cloves
  • 1/4 cup Molasses
  • 1/2 cup Chocolate chips optional

Equipment

  • 8x8 inch baking pan
  • Parchment paper
  • Mixing bowls
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on two sides for easy removal.
Wet Ingredients
  1. Melt the butter, then whisk in granulated sugar, light brown sugar, and molasses until well combined. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, whisking until the mixture is smooth and glossy.
Dry Ingredients
  1. In a separate medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, salt, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves, whisking to remove any lumps.
Combine & Bake
  1. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing gently until just combined and no streaks of flour remain. If desired, fold in the chocolate chips. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.
Cool & Serve
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs but not wet batter. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before lifting out and cutting into squares.

Notes

For extra festive flavor, sprinkle a little powdered sugar on top before serving, or add a cream cheese frosting.
