  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese Freshly shredded is best for melting.
  • 1 cup milk Use whole milk for a creamier texture.
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Spices
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper Optional for extra heat.
  • Salt to taste Salt to taste

Method
 

Cooking
  1. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute until bubbly.
  3. Gradually whisk in the milk, continuing to stir until the mixture thickens.
  4. Reduce heat to low and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
  5. Add chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, and salt. Mix well and adjust seasoning to taste.

Notes

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. To reheat, warm on low heat, adding milk as needed for consistency. For a creamier sauce, use whole milk or half-and-half. Adjust spice levels to your preference.
