Filling
  • 1 lb ground beef Use lean ground beef to reduce grease.
  • 1 small onion, chopped
Batter
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese Feel free to use a mix of cheeses for extra flavor.
  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour For a low-carb option, substitute with cauliflower rice.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder Make sure your baking powder is fresh.
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon mustard (optional) For added flavor.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a pie dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until browned. Drain excess grease.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, flour, baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and optional mustard.
Assembly
  1. Spread the beef and onion mixture in the bottom of the pie dish.
  2. Pour the batter over the meat mixture, then sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden and set.
  2. Let it cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

Serve warm with a fresh salad or steamed vegetables. For extra flavor, serve with ketchup or mustard. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
