Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 6 cloves garlic, thinly sliced Use fresh garlic for best flavor.
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce Can use gluten-free soy sauce or tamari for gluten-free option.
  • 1 tablespoon seasoned rice vinegar
  • 1/3 cup honey Adjust to taste; can substitute with maple syrup or agave.
  • Kosher salt to taste
  • Freshly cracked black pepper to taste
  • Green onions, thinly sliced For garnish.

Method

Preparation and Cooking
  1. Heat olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a large frying pan over medium to medium-high heat.
  2. Slice chicken breasts lengthwise into four thinner pieces. Season with salt and pepper, then coat evenly with flour.
  3. Cook the floured chicken for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  4. Melt the remaining butter over medium-low heat. Cook the sliced garlic for 30-60 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Add soy sauce and vinegar, scraping the pan bits. Stir in honey, pepper, and salt, then simmer for 4-5 minutes until thickened.
  6. Return the chicken to the pan and simmer in the sauce for 1 minute until warm. Serve garnished with sliced green onions.

Notes

For serving, pair with rice, steamed vegetables, or a fresh salad. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave or stovetop until heated through. For a spicy kick, add red pepper flakes to the sauce. Swap chicken for firm tofu for a vegetarian option.
