  • 4 large large potatoes, thinly sliced Make sure to slice the potatoes as thinly as possible for even cooking.
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (such as Gruyère or cheddar) Experiment with different cheese types for varied flavors.
  • 2 tablespoons butter For greasing the baking dish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish with butter.
  3. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the dish, sprinkling with salt, pepper, and any optional seasonings.
  4. Pour half of the heavy cream over the potatoes.
  5. Add half of the shredded cheese on top.
  6. Repeat the layering with the remaining potatoes, cream, and cheese.
Cooking
  1. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  2. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly.
  3. Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve hot as a side dish. They pair well with roasted meats, grilled chicken, or a simple salad. You can also sprinkle some fresh herbs on top before serving for an extra touch of flavor. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about 3-4 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave until warmed through.
