  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure your butter is at room temperature for easy mixing.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract You can experiment with flavors by adding lemon zest or almond extract.
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar For dusting, optional.

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients.
  5. Roll the dough into small balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them apart.
Baking
  1. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are lightly golden.
  2. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
  3. Dust with powdered sugar, if desired, before serving.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze them once fully cooled. The dough can be made ahead of time and refrigerated for up to 3 days.
