Method
 

Preparation
  1. Start by removing the crusts from the slices of bread.
  2. Spread a generous layer of cream cheese or herbed cream cheese on one side of each bread slice.
  3. On half of the slices, add a layer of pesto, followed by your choice of meat if using, then top with cucumber or lettuce, tomato slices, and crushed nuts.
  4. Place the remaining slices of bread on top to create sandwiches.
  5. Cut each sandwich into triangles or other fun shapes.
  6. Take a skewer and stack the sandwich pieces to resemble a Christmas tree, alternating layers for a colorful look.
  7. Optionally, sprinkle powdered parmesan or cheese on top for a snowy effect and tie small ribbons around the skewers.

Notes

Store any leftover skewers in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Best eaten within a day or two. For peak freshness, prepare ingredients separately and assemble closer to serving time.
