  • 0.75 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup Molasses
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 1 cup Hot water

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ground ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy; then beat in molasses and eggs one at a time until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet, alternating with hot water, ensuring to start and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Let the cake cool in the pan on a wire rack before slicing and serving.

Notes

Serve warm with a dollop of whipped cream or a dusting of powdered sugar for an extra special treat. This cake tastes even better the next day.
