Preparation
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan. Whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt in a large bowl.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, molasses, and egg until well combined. Gradually add the hot water to the wet ingredients, mixing thoroughly.
- Pour the wet ingredient mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring just until combined and no dry streaks remain. Be careful not to overmix the batter.
- Transfer the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan and bake for 35-45 minutes. The gingerbread is done when a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the gingerbread to cool completely in the pan before slicing and serving.
