  • 1 cup Granulated sugar

  • 1-2 teaspoons Red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon White vinegar (enhances red color)
Coating
  • ½ cup Powdered sugar

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Electric mixer
  • Baking sheets
  • Parchment paper
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

Preparation
  1. Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl, then set aside.
  2. Cream softened butter and granulated sugar until light; then mix in the egg, vanilla, red food coloring, and white vinegar.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined to form a soft dough.
Baking
  1. Chill the dough for 30 minutes, then roll into small balls and generously coat each ball in powdered sugar.
  2. Place the coated dough balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 9-11 minutes until the edges are set but the centers remain soft.
  3. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before baking to prevent excessive spreading. Adjust baking time slightly based on your oven and desired crispness of the cookies.
