  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet instant yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk Warm (not hot) for yeast activation
  • 1/4 cup butter Melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Frosting Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese Softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, yeast, and salt together.
  2. In a saucepan, gently heat the milk and butter until warm. Stir this warm mixture into the dry ingredients.
  3. Add the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract. Mix until a dough starts to form.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-10 minutes until it is smooth.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise for 1 hour, until it has doubled in size.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Roll out the dough and shape it into a rectangle. Spread some butter over the surface and sprinkle sugar and cocoa on top.
  3. Roll the dough into a log and cut it into rolls.
  4. Arrange the rolls in a greased baking dish and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  5. Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
Frosting
  1. While the rolls are baking, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and milk in a bowl until smooth to make the frosting.
  2. Drizzle the frosting over the warm cinnamon rolls before serving.
