Savory Cabbage Beef Bake

  • 1.5 lb Ground beef
  • 1 head Cabbage shredded
  • 1 Onion chopped
  • 1 can Crushed tomatoes (28 oz)
  • 1 cup Beef broth
  • 2 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tsp Dried oregano
  • 1 tbsp Brown sugar

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat, then drain any excess fat and add the chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until softened.
  3. Stir in the shredded cabbage and cook for 5-7 minutes until it begins to wilt.
Baking
  1. Add the crushed tomatoes, beef broth, salt, pepper, dried oregano, and brown sugar to the skillet; bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes.
  2. Transfer the entire mixture to the prepared baking dish and bake for 40 minutes, or until bubbly and heated through.

Notes

For an extra touch, consider topping with shredded cheese during the last 10 minutes of baking, or serve with a dollop of sour cream.
