For the cake
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Use high-quality cocoa for a richer flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk Ensure it's at room temperature.
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil Can substitute with melted butter or canola oil.
  • 1 large egg Ensure it's at room temperature.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup boiling water Recommended to enhance moisture.
For the ganache topping
  • 1 cup chocolate ganache For topping.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 6-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add milk, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  4. Stir in boiling water until well combined. The batter will be thin.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cooling and Topping
  1. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  2. Once cool, top with chocolate ganache. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Make sure your ingredients are at room temperature for better mixing. Do not overmix the batter; mix until just combined for a softer texture. For extra moisture, you can add a tablespoon of sour cream to the batter.
