  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature Make sure your butter is at room temperature for easier mixing.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed Consider using dark brown sugar for a richer flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon salt If using salted butter, reduce the added salt.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs Can substitute with flaxseed meal or apple sauce for a vegan option.
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips You can substitute with white or milk chocolate chips.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda.
  3. In a large bowl, beat together the butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt until smooth.
  4. Add vanilla and eggs, and mix until combined.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Drop dough by rounded tablespoons onto baking sheets.
Baking
  1. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  2. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

To keep your cookies soft longer, add a slice of bread to the container. For longer storage, freeze them in a freezer-safe bag for up to three months. Chilling the dough for 30 minutes can enhance flavor and make it easier to handle.
