Method

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
  2. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles crumbs.
  3. In a separate bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in warm milk.
  4. Add the yeast mixture and egg to the flour mixture.
  5. Mix until a dough forms. Knead briefly and then let it rise in a warm spot for about an hour.
Shaping
  1. Once the dough has risen, roll it out into a large rectangle on a floured surface.
  2. Spread the apple pie filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  3. Sprinkle cinnamon and vanilla extract over the filling.
  4. Fold the dough in half lengthwise and twist it into a ring shape or place it in a greased baking sheet.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Bake the kringle for about 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  3. Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly.
Glazing
  1. In a small bowl, mix the powdered sugar with a little water or milk until smooth.
  2. Drizzle over the cooled kringle for a sweet finish.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature. Pairs wonderfully with coffee or tea. For a delicious treat, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days, or refrigerate for up to a week. For longer storage, freezing is an option.
