Preparation of Cream Mixture
- In a mixing bowl, combine the mascarpone cheese, heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Whip until smooth and thick.
Preparation of Soaking Mixture
- In a shallow dish, combine the brewed coffee and coffee liqueur.
Layering
- Dip each ladyfinger briefly into the coffee mixture.
- Layer half of the dipped ladyfingers in the bottom of a baking dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
- Repeat the process with the remaining ladyfingers and mascarpone mixture.
Chilling
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
Serving
- Before serving, dust with cocoa powder and garnish with chocolate shavings, if desired.
Notes
Store any leftover cake in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about 3 to 5 days. The flavors will continue to meld, making it tastier the next day. For added freshness, consider adding a layer of sliced fruits, like strawberries or bananas, between the mascarpone layers.
